Return to Mt. Rainier Drive

August 3, 2008

After two long years of waiting the Paradise Inn has completed its seismic retrofitting and is open again. Please join us for our 10th Summer Drive to Mt. Rainier on Sunday, August 3, 2008 and for brunch at the Paradise Inn.

Paradise Inn has undergone a $22.5 million overall, most of which is unnoticeable. The building had been leaning for years and need to be reinforced for earthquakes. The fireplaces are again burning, but carefully rebuilt with reinforced concrete. There is a new floor in the lobby and the Glacier Lounge is gone to accommodate wheelchair accessible rooms. The piano has a new soundboard, but will the pianist still play the same old songs? The bear mailbox, grandfather clock and all the other furnishings are back. Come check out the changes along with the spectacular views of Mt. Rainer, the trails and wonderful scenery.

We meet at 7:15 am at McDonald’s at the foot of Kennydale Hill in Renton. Off I-405, take NE 44th Street exit (exit #7). If you want coffee or breakfast - come early, we leave promptly at 7:15 am (new time). The Mt. Rainier Visitor’s Center is still under construction and the parking is very limited this year, so we need to get there earlier than normal. Plus we take a group shot and get to the dining room for brunch, which starts at 11:00 am. Prices for brunch (includes tax and gratuity):

Adults (over 12 and under 62) $34.32

Senior (over 62) $30.63

Kids (under 12) $15.34

Please bring a check for the correct amount made out to: JDRC/NWA. We pay with a single club check, so no credit cards.

We need a firm RSVP by July 25, 2008. Call Marilyn or Al Fenstermaker: 425 868-6373 or email: windowmaker10@verizon.net with your name and number in your group.

If you want to spend the night at Paradise Inn call soon, they book up early: 360-569-2275. There are other lodging alternatives in the area outside the park. After the drive you are free to explore the area, spend the night or return home at your leisure.

Hope to see you for a great drive.
